  • Exciting children’s books about all sorts of topics, for school and public libraries.
  • Spot-on facts and figures for websites, atlases and encyclopedias.
  • Fun books for kids and the whole family, as sold in high street stores.
  • Clear display text and catalogues for museums, libraries and galleries.
  • Adult guide books, tourism or local history books. Most of these feature my beautiful home patch, North Wales.

This website presents forthcoming and current titles as well as my backlist of published work for client reference. Just click on the subject topics in the menu bar to find out more. When obtaining books, please support your local bookshops and libraries.

• PUBLISHERS

My publishers include Dorling Kindersley, HarperCollins, Quarto, Welbeck, Franklin Watts, Weldon Owen, Wayland, Bonnier, Walker Books, Macmillan Children's Books and Miles Kelly. I often work with book packagers, such as Tall Tree.

•  TO INFORM AND INSPIRE

I enjoy writing non-fiction which encourages children to explore the real world. My topics include history, famous lives, social issues, current affairs, lands and peoples, and natural history. I have written for all age groups. My aim is to inspire as well as to inform, sparking off exciting new interests or presenting challenging ideas. These should help children to read and think for themselves.

• JOINING THE DOTS

When possible I like to bridge modular divisions in the curriculum, linking the arts with the sciences perhaps, or explaining the history behind the issues of today and tomorrow. I try to join up the dots to make a bigger picture. The same principles apply in some of my adult books. A tourist guide might include not just beaches or outdoor pursuits, but celebrations of art, literature, folklore, architecture, history, politics, language and dialect, music or nature.

• CREATIVE COOPERATION

Most of my books are highly illustrated. They have been published in many different languages and sold around the world.  I have many years of publishing experience, both in-house (Hodder's educational imprints, Hamlyn and Macdonald Educational) and freelance. I enjoy team work alongside designers, illustrators, editors and consultants. I can myself provide a range of editorial and consultancy services, and manage publishing projects to a tight schedule.

• CONTACT

I am always happy to travel to meet clients. I generally attend the London Book Fair, and regularly use that as a chance to catch up with publishers and colleagues. I welcome any feedback or suggestions from readers or teachers, by email or letter.
